Flagler Beach, FL – April 15, 2021 – The City of Flagler Beach is proud to announce the hiring of Mr. William Whitson as our new City Manager.  Mr. Whitson, who is currently employed by Aransas County, Texas, brings a wealth of knowledge and over thirty (30) years of government experience to our City.  Mr. Whitson was selected after a nationwide search process that included fifty-seven (57) candidates from twenty-three (23) States.

The City Manager selection process began in late October of 2020 and concluded in

February of 2021.  When asked about the process and the selection of Mr. Whitson, Flagler Beach Mayor Suzie Johnston stated, “It’s been a long and rigorous process and this is, I think, one of the most important, if not the most important decisions a City Commission can make. I’m very excited about the new city manager, Mr. William Whitson. His experience uniquely qualifies him to take Flagler Beach to the next level.”

On his selection as our new city manager, Mr. Whitson stated, “I am humbled and excited by the opportunity being placed in my care. I pledge to be a good steward for Flagler Beach citizens and do all I can to help make our community the best it can be.”

To sum up the hiring of our new City Manager, Flagler Beach City Commission Chair, Eric Cooley, stated that, “The unexpected loss of Larry Newsom left a void that was daunting to fill.  After a long, thorough hiring process, I believe we have one of the most qualified candidates for the City of Flagler Beach in the country. As rich in experience as he is in enthusiasm, I am very excited for Mr. Whitson to begin his tenure here and put his knowledge to work for our citizens. With the end of the pandemic in sight and a new city manager coming on board, it is exciting times we have to look forward to”.

Mr. Whitson will begin his tenure with the City of Flagler Beach on May 1, 2021 and we welcome Mr. Whitson and his wife, Becky, to their new home in Flagler Beach!

As a City we’re excited to have Mr. Whitson onboard and we’re encouraging our community to come out and meet Mr. Whitson at his first Commission meeting.  Mr. Whitson’s first Commission meeting at the helm will be held in our City Commission Chambers, 105 2nd Street South, at 5:30 p.m. on May 13, 2021.
