FLAGLER COUNTY, Fla – With the distinguished visit and speech from the Ambassador of Portugal to the United States of America, Francisco Duarte Lopes the Board of the Portuguese American Educational Society (PAES) expressed its thank you to the golfers and sponsors of this year’s Scholarship Dinner and Golf Tournament. During the evening ceremony the amount of $23,000 was presented to 10 students. This was the 12th year of awarding scholarships with $269,000 in 137 scholarships given to date to students of Portuguese ancestry.
Dina Branquinho, mother of the late past recipient Marco Branquinho, handed the special scholarship in Marco’s memory in the medical field to Alex Camacho.
Manuel e Catherine Carneiro, parents of the late Stephen Carneiro, handed the special scholarship in Stephen’s memory in the technical or vocational field to Edwin Moncayo, Jr.
Among other sources, the financial support for these scholarships is guaranteed through “The North vs South Golf Tournament” which ran on October 7, culminating in the presentation of the golf awards and the scholarships at a dinner on Oct. 7 at the Portuguese American Cultural Center (PACC) in Palm Coast.
The Portuguese American Educational Society (PAES) is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization that works for the advancement of education and promotion of the Portuguese language and culture.
