Palm Coast – The Mayor’s 90/90 Challenge came to a record-breaking close with more than 30,000 miles logged during the three-month long fitness quest toward a healthier lifestyle.

“I am so proud and impressed with the dedication and strength of all of the participants in this year’s Mayor’s 90/90 Challenge,” said Mayor Milissa Holland. “This event is designed to encourage residents to get active and lead a healthy lifestyle. It is my hope they continue with their fitness goals and become an inspiration to others looking to improve their health as well.”

The challenge was to move at least a mile a day for the 90 days from Jan. 4 to April 3 and it was open to all ages of those who live, work, shop, play or exercise in Palm Coast. Participants logged their miles or minutes of activity performed at www.palmcoastconnect.com<http://www.palmcoastconnect.com/>.

This year’s challenge hosted 196 participants, some of whom formed teams together to make the experience more fun and interactive. A total of 19 teams formed, each naming their group something unique. Overall, running and/or walking was by far the most logged activity with the most amount of miles.

The Palm Coast Parks & Recreation team also created, organized and offered 90 activities throughout the 90 days (some were self-guided) for participants such as walking, rucking, running, paddling, biking, swimming and pickleball, to name a few.

“We appreciate the community’s record participation this year,” said Parks & Recreation Director Lauren Johnston. “Our team worked hard to develop 90 different activities throughout the Challenge and we loved seeing our residents enjoy the weekly walks, guided paddle tour, nature programs, and more.”

Participants were recognized at the City Council meeting on Tuesday, April 6. Finishers will be able to pick up their long sleeved t-shirts from the Community Center, Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. – 6 p.m. starting Wednesday, April 7.
