ST. JOHNS COUNTY, Fla. – The new Art in Public Spaces exhibit drew a large and enthusiastic crowd Wednesday, April 15, as guests gathered at the St. Johns County Government Administration Building for the opening reception of artist Koo Hon’s “Whispers of the Earth.”
Hosted by the St. Johns Cultural Council, the exhibit welcomed art lovers, community leaders, and members of the local arts community for an evening celebrating Hon’s solo exhibition featuring 23 original works.

St. Johns Cultural Council Executive Director Jeff Potts welcomed guests to the reception alongside St. Johns County Commissioner Ann Taylor. Hon was surrounded by proud family members and friends throughout the afternoon as visitors filled the gallery space to view the exhibit.

“Thank you so much for being here tonight. I hope you enjoyed the show and I really appreciate you,” Hon told attendees as she described the inspiration behind her works of contemporary realism.
Taylor praised both the exhibit’s interconnectedness to Earth and nature, and the opportunity the Art in Public Spaces program provides to the community.

“What is amazing is that these exhibits are free and open to the public. What a great opportunity to go and enjoy the groups of wonderful artists,” Taylor said.
Potts highlighted the role the Cultural Council plays in bringing a diverse range of artists and exhibitions to the public, showcasing three or four artists and local galleries per year through the program.

“All of these exhibitions are curated by a member of our cultural council team that, if you’re involved in our programs in any way, you know her, Chelsea Cornelius,” Potts said, thanking the team’s administrative and public art coordinator, among others.
“Whispers of the Earth” is an Art in Public Spaces showcase that celebrates both the natural world and the artistic community surrounding it.

The exhibit remains on display at the St. Johns County Government Administration Building during regular business hours, located at 500 San Sebastian View, St. Augustine, Florida.
