FLAGLER BEACH, Fla. – Fall is in the air and Flagler Beach businesses and attractions are ready to welcome visitors for the season.
Starting with the inaugural Fall for Flagler Festival, restaurants turned out with samples of their menu items while guests bid on donated auction items, raising funds for the Flagler Beach Historical Museum in Veteran’s Park on Saturday.
“Fall for Flagler used to be Cheer at the Pier, and we’re excited to keep it going and showcase all the food and restaurants that Flagler Beach has to offer,” said Tortugas co-owner Scott Fox.
Football fans didn’t have to give up their favorite fall activity to attend the event either. Known for their love of Miami football, fans could hang out at their tent and watch the game while supporting the event.
“It’s football Saturday and we’re huge Miami Hurricanes fans. We’re known as the place to come for college football and football in general,” beamed Fox.
The day was a win-win for the Flagler Beach Historical Museum according to executive director Patti King.
“This fundraiser supports our museum being open seven days a week,” said King. “The day has been beyond perfect. The turnout has been great and our community has given us such great support. The day’s been fantastic.”
Greeting visitors from across the world as they step through the time and into the museum, tourist services specialist James Fiske, loves being able to share Flagler County’s history, from the dinosaurs to today.
“We’ve got a great team here as far as our docents and volunteers are concerned,” shared Fiske. “I’m very proud of what the museum does and this is a fantastic event with a lot of happy people.”
Onward Into the Season
The event marked the first day of fall and ushers in a series of activities including a monthlong Scarecrow viewing tour and a ‘Witches Ride’, both hosted by Flagler Beach nonprofit, Flagler Beach Creates.
The events serve to expand on the character of the town known mostly for the beaches and beach-related activities.
Restauranteur Johnny Lulgjuraj, President of the Flagler Beach Business Bureau, is looking forward to working on the annual Starry Nights activities, and featuring the highly anticipated December holiday events.
Active in the community, he says the family-owned business is always proud to support local initiatives.
“Flagler Beach Historical Museum is one of the coolest hidden gems in town. They keep our history alive and always find ways to bring people together,” he said.
