PALM COAST, Fla. — A day on the greens became an investment in the future this week as community members gathered at Grand Haven Golf Club for the 5th Annual Joe Rizzo Memorial Golf Classic.

Now in its milestone fifth year, the tournament has grown from a memorial fundraiser into a driving force behind opportunities for local students. The event honors the legacy of Joe Rizzo, former executive director of the Flagler County Education Foundation, while raising critical support for the Foundation’s Classroom to Careers programs.

Those programs help Flagler Schools students gain access to the certifications, resources and higher education pathways they need to succeed in today’s workforce.

“This tournament has become more than just a memorial; it is a catalyst for our local students,” said Teresa Rizzo, executive director. “Thanks to the unwavering support of our partners, we are ensuring every Flagler student has a funded, clear path from their high school classroom to a meaningful career right here in our county.”

Over the past five years, the tournament has become a reflection of Joe Rizzo’s vision for the community — one centered not on fundraising totals, but on opening doors for young people.

“Joe’s mission was never about the bottom line; it was about ‘making it happen for kids,’” said Stephanie Ellis, assistant director of marketing and communication. “By reaching our fifth year, we are celebrating the fact that hundreds of students will face fewer barriers to their dreams because this community chose to show up in Joe’s honor.”

The event’s growing impact was powered by what organizers described as a “small army” of more than 35 volunteers, whose work helped create a premier tournament while ensuring that every possible dollar would benefit students.

The Flagler County Education Foundation also extended special thanks to its 2026 annual partners and sponsors, whose continued support has helped make the tournament a lasting success.

Donations in Joe Rizzo’s memory remain open and will continue to support students across Flagler County through the Foundation’s Classroom to Careers programs.
