BUNNELL, FL –The spring 2024 session of the Flagler County Sheriff’s Citizens Academy is starting in less than two weeks and Sheriff Rick Staly would like to encourage residents to attend.

“Getting to know your Sheriff’s Office is what this academy is all about,” said Flagler County Sheriff Rick Staly. “The men and women of the FCSO are proud to put on the badge every day and serve you. This academy provides you a behind the scenes look on everything involved with serving and protecting Flagler County. You even have the option to ride with a Deputy Sheriff on patrol.”

Get first-hand experience in what it’s like to serve and protect in Flagler County. Learn all about the FCSO including Guardianship and District Policing, the Investigative Services Division, drug enforcement, Victim Services and SWAT. Also, class members get to observe the Traffic and Motor Unit and K-9 Unit demonstrations, take part in “Shoot, Don’t Shoot” demonstrations, visit the FCSO communications center and detention facilities and go on patrol with a Deputy Sheriff. The FCSO Sheriff’s Citizens Academy is designed to help provide greater awareness and transparency of the many aspects of the FCSO and the agency’s role in the community through education. After graduation you become a member of the Sheriff’s Citizen Academy Alumni Association, allowing you to stay connected to FCSO.

Classes are free to the public and run from April 9 through May 16. These specifically designed three-hour classes take place two evenings a week (Tuesdays and Thursdays) and are held at the Flagler County Sheriff’s Operation Center located at 61 Sheriff E. Johnson Dr. in Bunnell.

Participants must be at least 18 years of age, live or work in Flagler County, have no prior felony arrests and no misdemeanor arrests within the last 12 months.
