BUNNELL, FL – The Flagler County Sheriff’s Office recently received a $120,000 grant from the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) aimed to reduce motorcycle crashes in Flagler County.

Between 2020 and 2022, 230 motorcycle crashes occurred in Flagler County. Of the 230 motorcycle crashes, 44 involved serious injuries and 9 fatalities occurred. This ranked Flagler County 6th for motorcycle crashes involving serious injuries and fatalities when compared to 14 other counties with a population of 50,001 to 200,000 according to FDOT. In 2023, four traffic crash fatalities involving a motorcyclist occurred.

FCSO will use the grant funds to implement programs to increase safety and awareness among motorcyclists through high-visibility traffic enforcement, communications and public outreach, and safety messaging during special events such as Bike Week and Biketoberfest.

“Our goal is to reduce the number of motorcycle crashes in Flagler County through education and enforcement,” said Sheriff Rick Staly. “Many bikers live, visit, and enjoy our county and this grant will help us in our mission to keep them safe on the roadways.”
