I participated in the Flagler Sportfishing Club’s midweek Flounder and Mangrove Snapper tournament last Wednesday. The turnout was fantastic, with over 60 anglers signing up to compete. The competition was fierce, and the results were impressive. The 1st place Flounder weighed in at 4lbs 5oz, with 2nd place at 3lbs 1oz. Places 3rd through 8th were all in the 2lb range. Kudos to Rich from Team Genung’s Fish Camp for his 6th place Flounder.

The victorious Mangrove Snapper tipped the scales at 1lb 1oz. My 1 lb 13oz Flounder didn’t make the money, despite a morning of searching. However, I did manage an impressive inshore slam with a couple of Trout in the morning, several Reds, and two flounder. The catfish were also quite lively, taking my artificial bait.

Aside from the tournament, the fishing has been outstanding this week, matching the soaring temperatures. The Matanzas inlet is witnessing a rise in redfish activity, and the Palm Coast canals have also been steady with a consistent bite.

My son and I teamed up to land a 36” red using a large artificial bait. Thanks to Barry (aka “Berry”) from BS Surf Fishing Charters for recommending the outing, supplying the rod (I only have light tackle), the lure the fish was caught on, and even the picture. On another outing, my son a 26” red on live blue crab. Other reports also confirm a strong bite recently.

Chris from Skinny Water Lures was away on vacation, so he didn’t provide a report this week, but he’ll be back next week to share updates.
