Miami is about to become the center of the universe. And you don’t even have to be a soccer diehard to be stoked about this one. Electrifying fans on Wednesday afternoon, superstar soccer player Lionel Messi announced his intent to sign with the club Inter Miami after closing out his season with Paris.
Already established as one of the sport’s greatest players of all time, the World Cup winner’s announcement will help continue growing a sport that has taken a foothold in North America starting with the arrival of Brazilian player Pelé in 1975.
Co-owner of the Inter Miami team, another star of soccer David Beckham has not issued a statement but officials at Major League Soccer shared the following:
“We are pleased that Lionel Messi has stated that he intends to join Inter Miami and Major League Soccer this summer. Although work remains to finalize a formal agreement, we look forward to welcoming one of the greatest soccer players of all time to our League.” – MLS
