Flagler County (Julie Murphy): September 26, 2022 – Flagler County and the cities of Palm Coast, Flagler Beach, and Bunnell have all cancelled garbage collection for Thursday and Friday – September 29-30 – due to Hurricane Ian and expected high winds. These collection dates will not be rescheduled.

“The goal is for everything and anything that may become an airborne projectile to be put up and secured,” said Emergency Management Director Jonathan Lord. “Palm Coast and the county are urging those who have a Wednesday yard debris pick up day to get loose vegetation to the curb.”

All residents are asked to bring their cans into their garages – or otherwise secure them for those without garages – for the duration of the storm.

For Bunnell, the cancellation includes both commercial and residential routes.

Garbage collection will resume on the next regularly scheduled weekday in Palm Coast and unincorporated Flagler County, as both entities are served by Waste Pro. Flagler Beach may (not definite) make a Saturday collection if weather improves. Bunnell will resume garbage collection on Monday, October 3.

Officials recommend having seven days’ worth of supplies such as food, water, and medication. Test flashlights and radios and be sure to replace outdated batteries. To find additional details on what else should be included in a disaster supply kit, as well as evacuation zone information, and the Disaster Preparedness Guide, visit www.flaglercounty.gov/emergency.

At the www.flaglercounty.gov/emergency website, residents can sign up for the ALERTFlagler notification system, directly accessible at www.flaglercounty.gov/alertflagler. Anyone with special medical needs – such as those who are medically electrically dependent, or who require daily home medical care – should register for the Special Needs Evacuation Assistance Program, which can be accessed at www.flaglercounty.gov/special_needs.

In the event of a power outage, if the residence uses a PEP tank system, conserve water as much as possible. Water usage during these times could risk waste backing up into homes. PEP systems rely on electricity to pump the waste out to the sewer system. Learn more about PEP tanks during a storm here: https://www.palmcoast.gov/emergency/pep-tanks-during-a-storm
