January 18, 2022 – Flagler County’s departments of Fire Rescue, Emergency Management, and Growth Management, as well as the Flagler County Sheriff’s Office, have scheduled the first informational community event of 2022 on January 31.
“We look forward to getting back on track engaging our residents on a regular basis,” said Emergency Management Director Jonathan Lord. “These events have been sporadic because COVID. We miss getting out, greeting people, and sharing valuable information.”
The open-house style event scheduled from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. January 31 at the Rima Ridge Fire Station – 500 Rodeo Road, Ormond Beach – will provide information about the various programs and services available to residents.
“I will provide information about home fire safety inspections, and smoke detector battery exchange,” said Fire Marshal Jerry Smith. “We will also answer questions about Community Paramedicine.”
Lord and his Emergency Management team will provide storm and disaster preparedness information, and register attendees for ALERTFlagler notifications. Growth Management staff will provide information about flood zone construction, and permitting requirements.
“I also plan to talk about flood insurance,” said Growth Management Director Adam Mengel. “Sometimes it’s required for a mortgage and sometimes it’s not, depending on if you are in a special flood hazard area. It’s a good idea to have it even if it’s not required.”
Flagler County Sheriff’s Office Commander Mike Lutz will provide an update from the FCSO, as well as talk about safety initiatives like locking parked cars, and tips for preventing road rage incidents.
Representatives from East Flagler Mosquito Control District, Florida Forest Service, and Flagler Volunteer Services are also expected to provide information.
“Flagler Volunteer Services will talk about the Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) training program,” Lord said. “And, the East Flagler Mosquito Control District will be available to discuss mosquito control questions as the county moves forward with offering enhanced services in the area.”
The next informational community event will be held March 7 at the Old Dixie Community Park.
