(November 10, 2021) — Liberty Mutual and Safeco Insurance are proud to announce that O’Quinn Insurance Services has earned a 2021 Make More Happen Award, recognizing its exceptional volunteerism with Provision Packs, a nonprofit organization dedicated to supplying nutritional assistance to low-income children and their families. The award includes a $5,000 donation with a chance to double the amount to $10,000 that will directly benefit the organization.
Beginning Wednesday, November 10, the story of O’Quinn Insurance and Provision Packs will be featured on the official Make More Happen microsite www.agentgiving.com/oquinn-insurance allowing the nonprofit a chance to earn the additional $5,000. If the featured story receives at least 500 votes— shares to social media and comments on their story—the donation will be doubled to $10,000.
The $10,000 donation will go toward Provision Packs’ Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Fund, giving them the resources to supply each child with a fresh fruit or vegetable every week.
“I was astonished to hear that one in five children in our area do not know where their next meal is coming from and during the COVID-19 pandemic, that number increased to one in three,” said Andrew Van der Burgt, Principal of O’Quinn Insurance. “Provision Packs provides food to about 550 children in twelve schools weekly – that alone explains the tremendous impact this program has on our community.”
O’Quinn Insurance plays an active role in Provision Packs’ major fundraising events throughout the year, including the River Scramble, Backpack Bash, Kids Fest and Golf Tournament. Several staff members from O’Quinn Insurance regularly volunteer to help pack and distribute 17,000 meals to children in their area each week. With the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic and an increased need for meals in the community, O’Quinn Insurance continued supporting Provision Packs in providing food to those in need through making the meals available for pick-up.

Throughout 2021, Liberty Mutual and Safeco Insurance will select a total of 34 independent agents nationwide for a Make More Happen Award donating up to $340,000 to the nonprofits they support. Agencies became eligible for the award by submitting an application demonstrating their commitment to a specific nonprofit, along with photos of a project they worked on.

As a classroom volunteer, Provision Packs’ founder Carrie Torres has seen childhood hunger firsthand. In 2015, during a breakfast/lunch party in her daughter’s classroom, Carrie was asked to make sure that two specific children got as much food as they wanted so that they were well nourished heading into the weekend.
