Flagler County, FL – On Monday, Lieutenant Jon Moscowitz, a 14-year Flagler County Fire Rescue veteran, member of the technical rescue team and lead emergency medical field training officer, was named First Responder of the Year by the Flagler American Legion Post 115.
Moscowitz’s name was submitted to the American Legion by Chief Michael Tucker along with the help of 15 others. “I cannot think of a better recipient for this award, especially given the fact his peers nominated him on behalf of our entire organization. Lt. Moscowitz goes above and beyond his call of duty daily and we are very proud to have him represent us,” said Chief Tucker.
In early March 2022, members of the Flagler County Fire Rescue Recognition Award Committee, consisting of 15 key members ranging from Lieutenants, Paramedics, and EMTs, chose two members from each shift based on one question: “Who would you trust taking care of your loved one for the best possible outcome?” The committee narrowed down their votes and all agreed on Lieutenant Jon Moscowitz.
Moscowitz has had a busy year which included coordinating an annual toy drive in his home, to delivering a baby in Rescue 62 on New Year’s Day, and the placement of ‘Brookie’s Boxes’ in all county apparatuses. Brookie’s Boxes were developed by Moscowitz and his wife which include items for children and adults with sensory processing disorders to help ease communication. Since the rollout, Brookie’s Boxes have been shipped to multiple states across the country.
As part of the American Legion EMT/Paramedic of the Year Award, criteria included a letter of recommendation from a supervisor, a list of specific community service, and acts performed over and above the call of duty during the last few years. Judges looked for an EMT or Paramedic who is well-rounded, demonstrated distinct patterns of community service both on and off duty, and has proven dedication to society to serve and protect.
This is not Moscowitz’s first time being recognized in our community for his valiant efforts in going above and beyond. In 2015, he was named EMS Provider of the Year by Flagler County, in 2016 the Sons of the American Revolution named Moscowitz Firefighter of the Year. In 2014, 2016, and 2020, Moscowitz was named Firefighter of the Year by the Kiwanis Club of Flagler County. Most recently, FOX35 presented Moscowitz with their Care Force Award which goes to first responders who do incredible things for the community.
