On January 13, 2022, Flagler County Sheriff Rick Staly visited four local schools to present four exceptional students with awards for being “Great Kids” for the month of December 2021.
“The Great Kid Awards give us the opportunity to meet and recognize some phenomenal kids doing great things in our community and in their schools,” said Sheriff Staly. “This is a terrific tradition that we started in 2018 and it is something that we look forward to every month. We hear too much in the media about kids who make bad decisions, it is an honor to present this award to these students and shine a spotlight on the kids in Flagler County who are working to make a positive impact.”

The Flagler County Sheriff’s Office (FCSO) recognizes Bruno Ferreira from Old Kings Elementary School for honoring the responsibility that is required to maintain academic progress with his schoolwork and individual goals. He is a role model for other students to follow by showing his love for learning and constant kindness to all. Bruno is worthy of receiving this recognition and we are lucky to have such an outstanding young man as part of our school family!

Bunnell Elementary school is proud to recognize 13-year-old Damian Carter who is deserving of this award for his dedication to ‘See Something, Say Something’ in helping keep the community safe. Damian located a firearm in the area of Bulldog Drive and notified his mother who contacted law enforcement. Although the firearm was found to be a BB gun, he is being recognized for doing a good thing and reporting it as he thought it was real. This is a great example of “If You See Something, Say Something.”
