Congratulations to Liao Lab Ph.D. student Elias Lunsford for winning the Best Student Paper competition at The Society of Integrative and Comparative Biology (SICB) last week in the Division of Neurobiology, Neuroethology and Sensory Biology.

His talk entitled “How the lateral line doesn’t work” uses first principles to upend a longstanding assumption in hair cell sensory biology, which has important implications ranging from human hearing to fish migration.

Presenting work collected with Yuriy Bobkov in the Strother and Liao labs, Elias beat out an especially tough field of eight other amazing talks.

Way to kick off the start of the year Elias!
