Flagler Schools congratulates Ron Crowley, the Custodial site coordinator at Buddy Taylor Middle School for being named “Rock Star Custodian” for 2021. The award, sponsored by the Academy of Cleaning Excellence, recognizes the importance of those working in the cleaning industry. This is the third year the Academy of Cleaning Excellence has handed out the award.

Dave Thompson, Director of Education for the Academy of Cleaning Excellence visited the Buddy Taylor Middle School campus Wednesday morning to honor Crowley.

Crowley enjoyed the voting process, keeping tabs on the tally the last couple of months of 2021. He was either first or second in the online voting before the contest ended in late December. Then, all he could do was wait.  He was a little surprised when he walked into the BTMS cafeteria Wednesday morning. There was a large group of students, teachers, administrators…there was the middle school band on stage. It then hit him. He won. “I didn’t know so many people cared about me, loved me, for who I am,” said Crowley. “I just want to make them proud and continue on to just do the best that I can.”

Ron Crowley has worked with Flagler Schools nearly his entire adult life. He’s a 1987 graduate of Flagler-Palm Coast High School and has been a custodian at Buddy Taylor Middle Schools for 27 years.

Kenney Seybold, Custodial Services Director for Flagler Schools says he’s not surprised Crowley won. “I had people who knew Ron 20 years ago call me to say they were going to tell all their friends to vote for him. That’s how he won the award. He’s had an impact on people’s lives.”

Whether he won or not, Crowley says he’s got the best job in the District. “The kids. The kids are so amazing. Anything I talk to them about, they’ll understand, they’ll listen. They are why we work so hard.”
