Think you can commit a crime elsewhere and flee into Flagler County? Think again.
The Flagler County Sheriff’s Office was contacted to assist after a carjacking suspect in Volusia County fled into our jurisdiction, armed with a knife and with a woman and children reportedly still in the vehicle. Deputies located the vehicle and successfully deployed Stop Sticks.
The driver then abandoned the vehicle near Wendy’s on Old Kings Road, and deputies rescued the victims.
Deputies then began to search for the suspect, later identified as Lee Miller, 31. With assistance from the drone team, FireFlight helicopter, and K-9 Unit, deputies located Miller and arrested him for fleeing or attempting to elude law enforcement and child neglect. He is also facing charges out of Volusia County.
The female in the vehicle, who originally told deputies she was a victim, is also believed to be involved in the carjacking. The investigation is ongoing.
“This guy made the mistake of trying to flee into our county and thinking he could get away from our deputies,” said Sheriff Rick Staly. “There’s nowhere you can hide from FCSO, and he just ended up caught and sweaty from all the running he did.”
Any reports of a shooting incident are unfounded.
