FLAGLER COUNTY, Fla. – What started as a neighborhood gathering around sourdough and community spirit has grown into something far bigger — a story of local generosity with national impact.

Rustic Dough Works, the beloved Flagler Beach location founded by David Ur, recently brought the community together for a heartfelt fundraiser benefiting The Wounded Blue, a national organization supporting injured and disabled law enforcement officers and their families. The result was a powerful reminder of what happens when purpose, people, and passion align.

“THANK YOU to everyone who came out to support us and The Wounded Blue — our local community truly showed up in a big way, and we are beyond grateful,” Ur shared. “This incredible outcome was made possible by the generosity and participation of the local public, who came together to support injured officers and their families.”

The benefit event raised $1,250, highlighted by a guitar signed by Slash of Guns N’ Roses, generously bid on by Walter Granger. But the evening was about far more than dollars raised.

“This is what community, support, and giving back truly look like,” Ur said. “Your generosity will make a real and meaningful difference for officers and their families this holiday season.”

Ur made special note of the people who made the event possible behind the scenes.
“A very special THANK YOU to our amazing employees, who worked the benefit event and volunteered their time for this cause. Your dedication, hard work, and heart made this event possible, and we couldn’t be more proud of you.”

Rustic Dough Works itself is a testament to grassroots success. Founded by Ur alongside his wife Lana, baker and partner Samantha Merz, and partner Rob Polidore, the café has grown from a small farmers market stand into a thriving coastal destination — a place where handcrafted sourdough meets connection and conversation.

Giving back has always been baked into the mission. Rustic Dough Works proudly donates a percentage of proceeds from every pie to The Wounded Blue, ensuring that every slice served helps support injured officers and their families across the country.

Now, that mission is expanding.

David Ur is preparing to open a second Rustic Dough Works location at City Market Place, marking an exciting new chapter for the business while staying rooted in the same values that built its success — heart, integrity, and service.

Beyond the kitchen, Ur also leads The Truth Be Told by David Ur, a movement centered on transparency, accountability, and standing up for what’s right. Whether advocating for causes he believes in or greeting customers alongside his loyal dog Zeus, Ur continues to show that business can be both successful and deeply human.
