December 31, 2025 – Flagler County Land Management is beginning its fourth year hosting the limited guided tour series called a “A Walk in the Park.” The next walk will be held at Princess Place Preserve – specifically along the Legacy Trail.

This tour begins at 9 a.m. sharp on January 8 at Princess Place Preserve, 2500 Princess Place Road, in Palm Coast. It is limited to 12 registrants, and participants are asked to arrive a little early for the safety briefing, and additional details about the 2.5-hour hike – which is described as “easy” – on flat, level terrain with wide and well-maintained trails.

Forestry Supervisor Ralph Risch will guide the walk.

“We will be visiting one of two active American Bald Eagle nests known to be on Flagler County property,” Risch said. “Along the way we’ll experience a number of plants, birds, insects, and other cool flora and fauna found on the Princess place property.”

The hike is between a mile and half and two miles roundtrip – depending on side junkets of interest. The walk will take about two hours to complete.

Participants who register (an account must be created) – and sign the two waivers: liability and photo/video release – will meet at 9:00 a.m.

Those who are participating should:

Expect a two-plus hour hike
Bring a water bottle
Wear long pants and closed-toe shoes
Use sunscreen and insect repellent as preferred
Bring binoculars for enhanced eagle-nest watching (or any other birds encountered)
Dress for weather – could be cold and rainy or warm and sunny

Directions:

Take U.S. 1 to Old Kings and turn there. Or, drive north on Old Kings until reaching the Princess Place Preserve entrance.
At the Princess Place Preserve sign, turn east into the preserve.
Drive east about 2.1 miles, through the gate and over the covered bridge.
The designated parking area will be on the left – a long row of spaces along a wooden fence in an open field.
Park close to the south end of the row and Risch will meet you there.
