WASHINGTON – U.S. Senators Ashley Moody, Bill Cassidy, M.D. (R-LA), chair of the Senate Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions (HELP) Committee, Roger Marshall, M.D. (R-KS), Tommy Tuberville (R-AL), Jon Husted (R-OH), Markwayne Mullin (R-OK), and Tim Scott (R-SC) launched a Committee task force to tackle fraud in federal funding, which is hurting American families and taxpayers. Senator Moody, along with the entire Senate Republican Conference demanded accountability from outgoing Minnesota Governor Tim Walz amid widespread reports of fraud and abuse of federal child care funding in Minnesota.

Senator Ashley Moody said, “As the co-chair of the Senate HELP Committee Taskforce on Health Care Fraud, Senator Marshall and I are laser-focused on rooting out waste, fraud and abuse that we are uncovering in the out-of-control levels of government spending. Up to 10% of the U.S. budget is stolen every year because of fraudsters, and as stewards of taxpayer funds, it is vital that not a single dollar is wasted. The widespread fraud we are seeing in Minnesota is astonishing, and underscores how important these efforts are to remove bad actors and improper spending.”

Senator Bill Cassidy said, “Our tax dollars are supposed to help American families, not line the pockets of fraudsters. HELP Committee Republicans are committed to rooting out this fraud and ensuring Americans’ tax dollars are used responsibly.”

Senator Roger Marshall said, “As a physician, I know that when systems lack oversight, patients pay the price. Fraud in federal health spending isn’t just wasteful; it takes care away from families who actually need it. This task force will crack down on abuse and make sure taxpayer dollars are helping real people, not lining the pockets of scammers.”

Senator Tommy Tuberville said, “A little more than a year ago, the American people overwhelmingly voted for President Trump’s agenda to cut out waste, fraud, and abuse from our government. After losing more than 19 BILLION American taxpayer dollars under Tim Walz’s watch to fake Somalian daycares, it’s evident that there’s still work to be done. We must aggressively tackle this issue from all sides to ensure corrupt politicians never misuse Americans’ hard-earned taxpayer dollars again. As Chairman of the HELP Subcommittee on Children and the American Family, I’m proud to co-lead this task force alongside Sen. Husted to make sure every cent allocated for American education reaches its intended purpose.”

Senator Jon Husted said, “Americans want the next generation to have the knowledge and skills to succeed and when they invest in education, they should be confident those dollars are accomplishing just that. Fraud of any kind decreases confidence in our systems, and it’s our job to find bad actors and hold them accountable. I’m proud to join Senator Tuberville in leading this work.”

Senator Markwayne Mullin said, “The taxpayers overwhelmingly elected Republicans to root out waste, fraud, and abuse. While Republicans passed a $9 billion rescissions package last year to solidify a large batch of DOGE cuts—that’s not nearly enough. We should use every tool at our disposal to hold bad actors accountable and eliminate wasteful, or downright fraudulent expenses that do not serve the interest of the United States of America. This is a critical part of America First agenda.”

Senator Tim Scott said, “Hardworking Americans don’t send their money to Washington so it can be stolen by fraudsters while bureaucrats look the other way to satisfy their leftist agenda. As co-chair of the Labor and Pensions Subcommittee, I’m proud to help lead this task force to shut down waste, fraud, and abuse and finally bring accountability back to federal spending. Money meant for retirees and workers should go to retirees and workers – period. We are done tolerating corruption, and we are done letting scammers cash in at the expense of American taxpayers.”
