Do it or not?

I see all these photos on social media of people casting their cares to the side and hopping aboard a cruise to some exotic destination, and I won’t deny, there’s a severe case of FOMO going on.

I’ve never been on a cruise. I’ve done some really wild things in life but never had the nerve to step foot on a cruise ship. Even when it was free. Seriously, I know, right? The whole Jaws, Titanic, stomach virus thing just puts the brakes on the adventure.

Now, I’ve been hanging out with some gals who are cruisers. They’ve been some crazy cool places and listening to the stories, I’m almost game. (Naturally I’ll bring my own life raft with me …) In fact, they’re heading to Alaska in a few months and my debate is do I jump on board and go? It’s a dream destination, all inclusive, and not unreasonable.

Out of curiosity, I attended the welcome meeting the other night and saw where they were going and was even more convinced it might be ok. Plus, it’s a fundraiser for Flagler Volunteer Services, so it’s for a good cause.

Talking with the travel coordinator, I wondered if all the work she puts in is really worth it for the nonprofit and she shared it’s a good way for them to raise money and be creative with the fundraising. Plus, the shared stories strengthen the bond among members and volunteers.

“Nonprofits often struggle with donor fatigue, and group cruises help solve that by turning fundraising into an experience instead of an ask. People aren’t just donating — they’re connecting, traveling together, and becoming part of a shared story tied to the organization’s mission,” shared Geri Scott, a travel advisor for the past nine years.

I have until January 30th to make a decision. Could this finally be the one that gets this landlubber on a boat?

I’ll keep you posted.
