Flagler County officials are pleased to share the news that the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) has installed a new traffic signal at the intersection of U.S. 1 and County Road 13 in Bunnell.
The signal is currently operating in flash mode, according to the FDOT news release, with full activation expected within about two weeks.
“This light will make it much easier to navigate to the Fairgrounds for major events that are held there, including the rodeos throughout the year and the Flagler County Fair and Youth Show,” said County Administrator Heidi Petito. “It will also make it easier for those participating in programs offered by the UF|IFAS Extension.”
Flash mode serves as a temporary alert to help motorists adjust to the new signal before it is fully activated. Drivers approaching the intersection when the signal is flashing should stay alert and proceed with caution. Motorists should yield to any pedestrians, bicyclists, or vehicles already in the intersection and ensure it is clear before continuing.
This new traffic signal is part of a larger FDOT project to improve safety and accessibility along a nearly six-mile stretch of U.S. 1 that runs through Palm Coast and Bunnell.
Work on this project is expected to be completed in early 2026, pending weather or other unforeseen circumstances. For more information about these improvements, visit www.cflroads.com/project/445216-1.
