BY: JASON WHEELER, FLAGLER SCHOOLS

Each school year Flagler Schools adopts a new curriculum in one major subject area according to the state’s instructional materials adoption cycle. The instructional material adoption process provides the opportunity for the public to review materials, provide feedback, and submit requests for the reconsideration of adopted materials.

K–12 Social Studies materials are being adopted during the 2022–23 school year, and have been made available for public review. The Flagler Schools public review period will end on Tuesday, February 7th.

Please visit the Instructional Materials page to learn how to review materials digitally and in person.

IN PERSON MEETING NOTICE FROM

LASHAKIA MOORE, ASSISTANT SUPERINTENDENT OF ACADEMIC SERVICES FOR FLAGLER SCHOOLS.

MONDAY, FEBRUARY 6, 2023 AT 6 PM

I want to thank all the parents in our community who actively participate in their child’s education. Any high-achieving district must have active parents to be successful.

To that end, I encourage our parents or interested community members to volunteer their time with our schools. Whether as a PTO member, a School Advisory Council, or mentoring students, adult volunteers allow our students to succeed.

Right now, we are also seeking adults to serve on our book review committees. Each school has a committee, and we have a district team as well. I’m sure you have seen the headlines and know there is an increased interest in media materials on our campuses. These committees are an important part of the book challenge process, and we want a variety of people serving on them.

If you are interested in serving on a media committee or would like more information about the role and responsibilities of the committees, please consider joining us on February 6, 2023, for a brief informational media book committee session. The informational session will provide you with an overview of how media materials are selected for Flagler Schools, as well as the role and responsibilities of the book review committee.

Thank you
